Plastic bottles are cheaper, lighter, and harder to break. There is a reason most supplements use them. There is also a reason AvalonX does not.
Light degrades active ingredients
Many botanical and enzyme compounds are photosensitive. Amber glass filters the wavelengths most associated with degradation, which helps support potency across the life of the bottle rather than only on the day it was filled.
Rethinking plastic packaging
Choosing glass also means less plastic in your cabinet. To be clear about what we are and are not saying: phthalates are plasticizers used in certain plastics, such as PVC, and they are not present in every plastic supplement bottle. We choose amber glass for light protection and to reduce our reliance on plastic, not because we believe every plastic bottle is a hazard.
The trade-off is ours, not yours
Glass is heavier and costs more to ship, and bottles occasionally break in transit. We chose to carry that cost rather than change the formula or the packaging standard. One format exception: the 1,000-tablet Spirulina ships in a protective pouch, because a glass container that size is impractical. Spirulina Mini comes in amber glass.
